It’s for those who miss the sounds of footsteps on busy city sidewalks.
Following the recent release of the JCW Nighfall Edition and Cooper S Rosewood Edition, MINI has announced their latest ‘Sidewalk Edition’, based on the Cooper S Convertible.. The stylish soft-top gains exclusive paintwork, an exclusive set of wheels, a multitude of interior enhancements, exclusive accessories and a premium set of speakers.
Under the bonnet, the Sidewalk Edition remains no different to the standard Cooper S Cabriolet, housing a reasonable 141kW/280Nm (189hp) 2.0 litre TwinPower Turbo engine, which sends power to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This setup sends the minute hatch cabrio from 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds.
As dubious as the name is, the Sidewalk Edition references the dearly missed sounds of shoes tapping the sidewalk in busy metropolitan cities since the Covid-19 pandemic begun, and it features a striking exclusive individual Leguna Blue with bold ‘Sidewalk Edition’ arrow graphics on the bonnet. White Silver and Midnight Black are also available on request.
Special edition badging finds itself embedded on both exterior side scuttles, and unique 17-Inch ‘Scissor’ wheels further differentiates the stylish cabrio. Additionally, a unique ‘MINI Yours’ style soft-top adorns the roofline of the car, which can be folded up or down in 18 seconds for the upcoming summer.
Limited edition blue and yellow seat stitching strikes an energetic feel for the Anthracite leather seats, and a sports steering wheel with a small ‘Sidewalk’ logo adds to the uniqueness of the outside. Additionally, along with fancy blue techno-like trim comes a premium Harman Kardon sound system, which will be promoted on launch.
For the Australian and New Zealand launch, MINI has teamed up with Harman Kardon and musical artist Owl Eyes to create ‘Sidewalk sounds’, which MINI states adds to the much needed live-music scene that has been sorely missed since the pandemic.
Owl Eyes will be travelling Sydney in a Sidewalk Edition MINI with sound equipment to open the live music scene once again in areas like Bondi and Surry Hills, in what MINI describes as ‘a top-down travelling party’. All footage will be available from Thursday 29 October on MINI Australia or Harman Kardon’s Instagram pages.
The car will be launched with the Harman Kardon Citation Series home/outdoor speaker systems, and will come with a price tag of $55,800 AUD.
