Destroy the dirt with the 2021 Shelby F-250 Super Baja

With over 1,400Nm of torque, this American truck is a force to be reckoned with.

Large offroad trucks are commonplace in the United States, and fans of them flock to defend their favourite marques. Ford tuner Shelby American has driven their new entry into the market – the 2021 F-250 Super Baja.

A truck that the company states was derived from their already powerful Shelby F-150 Super Snake, the new F-250 was developed after many “requests for a three-quarter ton truck that delivered maximum towing capacity and serious off-road capabilities” (President of Shelby America Gary Patterson).

In turn, Shelby has fitted the F-250 Super Baja with a huge 6.7 litre Powerstroke turbo diesel V8, tuned up to a whopping 354kW (475hp) power and an even more impressive 1,424Nm (1,050lb-ft) of torque. Delivered via a ten-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive system, the truck is capable of towing up to 10,997kg (24,200lbs), or 14,742 kg (32,500lbs) if towing a fifth-wheeler caravan.

In terms of design, the Super Baja has been fitted with heavy duty offroad parts for rough terrain, from rugged bumpers to 18-inch wheels riding on 37-inch BFG KM3 tyres. A chase rack has also been equipped for mounting up to two spare tyres, ensuring this F-250 is never left stranded in the wilderness. Power retractable side steps have been fitted for ease of entry due to its high ground clearance from modified Fox suspension, of which includes adjustable upper control arms, front coilovers with adjustable reservoirs, front radius arms, rear shocks with piggyback reservoirs, and a dual steering stabiliser.

A front mounted light bar ensures maximum visibility in the dark, and creature comforts on the inside keep occupants cosy, with specially made Shelby branded leather seating, imitation carbon trim, as well as other pieces scattered around the dash with Shelby identifiers on them.

Only 250 F-250 Super Bajas will be made and for the 2021 model year only, with pricing starting in the United States at $125,805 (~A$160,000). No units have been allocated for overseas markets.
