This is what happens when you ask gamers to design a car.
Straight out of a sci-fi film or a futuristic video game, this represents Team Fordzilla’s e-sports halo car, and it’s named the P1. Not the McLaren P1, but the Fordzilla P1.
Unveiled late August at Gamescon 2020 in Germany, Ford states that design influences came from e-sports fans’ votes on Twitter, and the collective gaming community of 225,000 voters ended up with this design as their final product.
The final design is the brainchild of Arturo Ariño, Ford Europe’s exterior designer, and it was inspired by the Ford GT, albeit obviously modified substantially to give it an extremely futuristic look.
The car apparently also has the capability to morph from a longer body ‘long tail’ configuration for faster circuits, to a shorter and more nimble configuration for tight circuits.
No data has been made available yet about the powertrain, however we can reasonably assume that it will share the Ford GT’s 3.5L EcoBoost V6, which produces 482kW (647hp) of power and 746Nm of torque.
Ford has no plans to put the P1 into production, however they will be building a one-off model of the vehicle later this year, and gamers should expect to see the vehicle featured in at least one video game next year – as Ford are already discussing with developers.
There’s no word from McLaren (yet) about Ford using the P1 name for their vehicle.
